Recent data from Bury Council shows that Bury has the most ongoing private and public regeneration projects of any Greater Manchester borough outside Manchester City, while Bury workers are now paid the third-highest hourly wage in the region.
Bury, under its Labour leadership, has seen record levels of investment, totalling nearly £250m of planned or ongoing regeneration projects. These include new market centres in Bury and Prestwich, a new town centre for Radcliffe with a state-of-the-art leisure centre, new plans for the towns of Whitefield and Ramsbottom, and a raft of local transportation improvements, from 24-hour night buses to a new Metrolink interchange.
The borough has also gained national attention for its ambitious Atom Valley project – a state-of-the-art manufacturing hub set to be built within the borough. When completed, the Atom Valley site will provide nearly 20,000 additional jobs to the local economy and 7,000 new homes, as well as new public transport and active travel connections.
This comes in conjunction with additional data showing Bury is now the third best area within Greater Manchester for workers’ pay, with the median hourly wage rising to £18.04 from £15.19 in 2019.
